Healthy Frozen Meals – can it really be true? #EatHonestly

This year I have been focused on living healthier, getting fit and eating better.  After years of trying numerous weight loss programs, I have finally figured out what the key is for me to lose weight – simply eating healthy meals.  I have completely changed how and what I eat. I have cut out as many processed foods as I possibly can along with most dairy and soy products.  I am learning to love fruit and vegetables by preparing them and seasoning them different ways.  Everyone’s metabolism and bodies work differently so what works for one may not work for another but everyone can benefit by eating healthier meals.

While I am enjoying trying new foods and cooking more at home, there are days when I just do not have time to cook. Okay, I’ll be honest more often than not there are days that I am just too tired to cook. With running my own business, family and household responsibilities, volunteer work and that other thing I really enjoy – sleeping, it is hard to find time to cook too.  Being single, I also do not like to cook big meals just for myself as it can get boring eating the same thing day after day.  I often end up throwing away the extra leftovers too.

I love to have healthier foods on hand that I can grab and eat on those fast paced days full of meetings and appointments to save me time and to save my healthier living goals. That is just one reason why I was excited to try out Lean Cuisine’s new Honestly Good™ Frozen Meals. These frozen meals have 100% natural and wholesome ingredients.  That is something new for frozen meals!  They offer 6 different meals including: Honey Citrus Chicken, Lemongrass Salmon, Pomegranate Chicken, Pineapple Black Pepper Beef, Plum Ginger Grain-Crusted Fish and Roasted Red Pepper Chicken.  Each meal comes with a packet of sauce you can add to the meal to give it more flavor and taste. The Honestly Good Frozen Meals range from 270 to 390 calories and 7 to 9 grams of fat.

You might be like I was and wondering if the ingredients really are all natural. One of the first things I did was read the list of ingredients to look for those fake ingredients and preservatives – those words that are so long you cannot pronounce them.   I was happy to see that all the ingredients listed were actually real food items and flavorings!

I had a little bit of a hard time finding the Honestly Good™  Frozen Meals at the Wal-Mart I shopped at. They are not with the other Lean Cuisine Meals. You will need to go to the healthy foods section in the freezer area to find them. I was able to find three of the six meals at my local Wal-Mart. Hopefully they will have the other flavors soon so I can try them too.

The first one I tried was the Pineapple Black Pepper Beef.  I have to say I was pleasantly surprised how good the beef tasted. It was perfectly moist and easy to cut with just my fork. I typically do not purchase frozen meals with beef in them as the beef is usually fake tasting or tough and chewy. The Pineapple Black Pepper Beef meal was as good as if I had cooked it myself. The rice and veggies were also really good. While the meal was delicious and the sauce really topped it off, I was a little disappointed that I really could not taste the pineapple in it too much. It still tasted great but  not what I was really expecting.

I always try to eat extra veggies with my meals now. Vegetables are low in calories and super healthy.  I made a Tomato, Cucumber & Avocado Salad to go with my meal.  To make this simply chop up 1 large tomato, 1/2 a cucumber and 1 avocado then add a couple tablespoons of olive oil and 1/2 a teaspoon of Italian seasoning. It is so good! A couple of years ago I would have never touched an avocado.

I also tried the Honey Citrus Chicken. It has a very unique taste to it. It reminded me of sweet & sour chicken. The pasta in it was very good. The spinach gives it a bit of a kick to help balance out the sweet and sour taste of the sauce.

I love that there is a healthier frozen meal option now from a brand that I already loved!
